It is with great sadness that the family of Raymond Clarence (Ray, Ray-Ho) Masters, of Merriam, KS announces his passing after a hard-fought battle with cancer on Monday, October 2nd, 2017. Ray passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family. He was 67 years young. Ray was born on July 6th, 1950 in Kansas City, MO. He graduated from Shawnee Mission North in 1968 and attended some college. He met and married Cynthia (Cindy) Simpson in Kansas City, KS on April 17, 1971. Ray worked as an installer for ADT for 10 years. In 1978, Ray and his brother Gerald opened Merriam Hardware in Merriam, KS and in 1984, Ray became the sole owner. He was actively involved in the Travelers Protective Association (TPA) and many other charities and organizations. A few of his favorite pastimes were bowling, BBQ, and beer, which led to the birth of his competitive BBQ team F. O. M. S. B. Ray is survived by his loving wife Cindy of 46 years; children; Carrie Cunningham (Brad), Michele Spiezio (Mark), Leslie Fong (Alex), Raymond Craig Masters (Stephanie), Trish Bray (Eugene); 10 grandchildren, and his faithful companion Grayson; his brothers and sisters, Clarence Masters (Rosa) of Augusta, Georgia, John Eldon Masters (Judy) of Merriam, Kansas, Jean Ann Pattimore (John) of Spring Hill, Kansas, Terry Masters (Celeste) of Overland Park, Kansas, Gerald Masters (Marsha) of Merriam, Kansas, Wilma Schwermer (Mike) of Paola, Kansas; many nieces and nephews and an innumerable (seriously… innumerable) amount of friends. Ray is preceded in death by his parents John Masters and Wilhelmina Altenhoffen Masters, and brother, Robert Masters. The family will receive visitors for a celebration of life at Old Town Shawnee, 11600 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203 on Friday, October 6th, 2017 from 6pm to 9pm. A mass will be held at 10:00am Saturday, October 7th, 2017 at Sacred Heart Church, 2646 S 34th Street, Kansas City, KS 66106.
